Some Local Sights

Goats are everywhere. Sometimes we have to get out of the car and move them to get the car by them. You can see the size of the roads in town. There are lots of cement walls and iron gates. I parked behind the truck and we walked a ways to see the sisters and repair one of their fans. It's tough to turn around and go back. Than goodness I'm pretty good at backing up or moving rocks to back into a field to turn the car around.

 Cactus even in the tropics.

Kids in their uniforms coming home from school. Girls carry sun umbrellas and boys wouldn't be caught dead with a sun umbrella... not cool!

No orange cones or barriers here... rocks work just fine.

Why buy bananas when you can get them free along the way. To me these little bananas have a sweet tang of a fresh peach.

The fish market has anything you want and a lot of what you don't want.  Smells like fish! Now remember the heat and humidity... not a place to hang around all day. On our way out we were pulled aside by a woman that told us she was a member and we talked for a minute. It is stake conference and a general authority is visiting, so she wanted us to know that she was going to be there. We have several people call us over and talk with us along our way.

Everyone wants their picture taken... I guess they want to be on our blog.

This fish market is part of what they call a "wet market". There is all kinds of meat, fish, poultry in the wet market. The dry market is filled with fruits and vegetables. We parked on the second floor and on the way out we were going to pay the parking fee when a young woman greeted us and called us elder and sister. She said there was no fee for us and she would see us at conference.

The fish market. Sorry, I don't have smell-o-video. It;s a real olfactory experience!

Sticky rice patties wrapped in banana leaves and then you pour a sweet sugar sauce on it. It tastes a lot like super-thick tapioca with a molasses sauce. Not bad.

It;s amazing how many ways you can prepare rice.
